Why Doctrina?

Homebased tutoring puts your child at ease. Working at home raises their comfort level and reinforces students to have a more positive attitude towards learning. 1-on-1 instruction provides your student(s) with individualized support and the guidance to help them comprehend specific materials.

Doctrina incorporates all learning styles, making it ideal for students who may have various learning strengths and weaknesses.

Convenience

Doctrina at-home tutoring provides a convenient at home service that respects your busy schedule. Doctrina schedules tutoring at times convenient to parents; 365 days a year, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. With gas prices on the rise, parents save time and money and are freed from the inconvenience of driving to and from educational centers. Time is precious and Doctrina respects your life style. Doctrina works with the 24/7 lifestyle of the modern family. Divorced families with limited single parent time between households can share tutoring responsibility. Siblings can distribute time with one tutor from the comfort of their own home. Flexible scheduling and at-home servicing is advantageous for busy parents.

Affordable

Doctrina is the most affordable educational service available in San Diego. We will match or beat any other at-home service price in the area. Billing and open contracts are accommodating. We do not demand any tricky long-term contracts or greedy registration fees. Our cost ranges from $45 to $30 per hour.

Quality Local Leadership

Doctrina is owned and operated by teachers. Communication is easy and relationships are effortlessly constructed. Also, Education is the focus and background of the leadership, not sales or commerce like the other tutoring services. Doctrina Tutoring cares about the community and the children it serves. High standards of integrity, honesty, and respect are pillars that Doctrina Educational Services strives to set for its staff, students, and community.

Tutors Doctrina tutors are certified teachers or degreed professionals with a passion for teaching. A vast majority of our tutors teach or have taught in public or private schools. Students are assigned the same tutor throughout the duration of tutoring. Parents may choose to replace the tutor if they feel that they are not meeting certain needs. Instruction is truly individualized - one-on-one, not one teacher to 5, 6 or more children. Immediately following each session, Doctrina tutors meet with parents to review their child's progress.
Research says it works! The goal of Doctrina Tutoring is to encourage individual growth and academic gains with personal one-on-one attention. “The strong potential for the diagnostic/prescriptive exchange is likely responsible for the success of tutoring.” (Barley). The rich cycle of immediate feedback and tailored instruction allows the tutor to attend closely to the academic needs of the learner. Doctrina Tutoring is a success because this exchange is recognized and encouraged. Research has identified a strong relationship between feedback and achievement. In the book, What Works in Schools: Translating Research into Action, education researcher Robert Marzano (2003) provides a review of relevant research. He indicates that “academic achievement in classes where effective feedback is provided to students is considerably higher than the achievement in classes where it is not.” He suggests that feedback must be timely and that it must be specific to the content at hand. The objective of Doctrina tutors is to provide relevant feedback while avoiding confusion that can result from the introduction of extraneous information. One-on-One tutoring is efficient in that it provides the student a constant flow of formative information. One-on-One instruction, by the nature of the activity, encourages the tutor to provide both timely and content specific feedback.
Community Partnership

Doctrina Tutoring is a proud partner of various local businesses, school districts, day cares, and community services. Also, Doctrina is an approved Supplemental Educational Service Provider for No Child Left Behind. According to the No Child Left Behind Act, by the 2005-2006 school year, states and districts will be required to administer annual statewide assessments to all students in the core subjects for grades 3-8. The results of the assessments will provide a basis for a school’s Academic Performance Index. The API reflects a school’s performance on student assessments that are part of Standardized Testing and Reporting program. Districts which consecutively fail to meet the API must allow parents the choice to seek out a supplemental educational agency, such as Doctrina Tutoring, to help improve test scores.
